IRON NESTUnofficial Field Manual

Quick Answer

How to beat Blind Fire: follow the fixed dependency order Alpha → AA1 and AA2 → Bravo → AA3 and AA4. Plot Alpha from Spotter 1 bearing plus Spotter 2 distance. Use Alpha to locate AA1 and AA2, then use AA1 to establish Bravo and finish AA3 and AA4. Do not copy coordinates from another run because exact positions change with the current run. Convert each confirmed target range with elevation = range ÷ (charges × 5) × 60, fire HE, and wait for the kill marker. Destroy all four batteries to restore aerial reconnaissance.

Blind Fire elevation calculator

Enter the target range from your current run and the number of powder charges. The calculator uses the checked linear firing rule; it does not supply a target coordinate or bearing.

Firing solution

35.46° elevation

Maximum range with 2 charges: 10.00 km.

Show the calculation

elevation = range / (charges * 5) * 60

Each charge contributes 5 km of maximum range at 60°. Confirm the target, bearing, shell, and live mission result before firing.

Step-by-Step Route

  1. Copy the current Iron Nest and three Spotter positions onto the map.
  2. Plot Alpha from Spotter 1 bearing and Spotter 2 distance.
  3. Plot AA1 from Alpha bearing and Spotter 3 bearing.
  4. Plot AA2 from Alpha bearing and Spotter 1 distance.
  5. Draw new Iron Nest firing lines to AA1 and AA2.
  6. Calculate elevation, fire HE, and confirm both kill markers.
  7. Plot Bravo from AA1 bearing and Spotter 2 distance.
  8. Plot AA3 from Bravo bearing and Spotter 3 bearing.
  9. Plot AA4 from AA2 bearing and AA3 distance.
  10. Draw new firing lines, calculate, and clear AA3 and AA4.
  11. Confirm four kill markers and restored aerial reconnaissance.
  12. Stop firing while the three scripted HCHE impacts resolve.

Detailed Walkthrough

1. Plot Alpha before touching an AA report

Objective: Establish the first reference point from the two reports that define it.

Exact map positions vary, but the report relationship stays the same. Plot Alpha where the bearing from Spotter 1 meets the distance from Spotter 2. Start each line at the exact marker origin and measure the distance from Spotter 2—not the Iron Nest. Keep both construction lines visible because later targets reuse Alpha. Never paste coordinates or report numbers from another run; only the dependency survives a restart.

Watch for

  • Measuring Alpha’s distance from the Iron Nest.
  • Starting from another run’s coordinate.
  • Drawing beside a marker instead of from its exact origin.

2. Use Alpha to clear AA1 and AA2

Objective: Solve the first pair, then convert each location into a turret solution.

AA1 is the intersection of the bearing from Alpha and the bearing from Spotter 3. AA2 combines a bearing from Alpha with a distance from Spotter 1. After marking each point, draw a separate line from the Iron Nest to obtain the turret bearing and target range. Calculate elevation with range ÷ (charges × 5) × 60, load HE, fire, and wait for the kill marker. The intelligence bearing is never a substitute for the final Iron Nest firing line.

Watch for

  • Using an intelligence bearing as the turret bearing.
  • Treating AA2 as a two-bearing intersection.
  • Firing the second solution before checking the first kill marker.

3. Build Bravo, then solve AA3 and AA4

Objective: Reach the later pair without hiding an error in a reused reference point.

Plot Bravo from the bearing reported from AA1 and the distance reported from Spotter 2. AA3 uses bearings from Bravo and Spotter 3. AA4 uses the bearing from AA2 and the distance from AA3. If a late intersection looks wrong, recheck the earliest reused point, marker origin, and report type instead of dragging the target by eye. Draw fresh Iron Nest firing lines to AA3 and AA4 before calculating their elevations.

Watch for

  • Building Bravo from the Iron Nest.
  • Using AA3’s bearing when AA4 requires its distance.
  • Correcting a late point by eye.

4. Confirm completion before the scripted impacts

Objective: Separate the four required kills from the post-objective story event.

Count four individual AA kill markers. After the fourth battery is destroyed, aerial reconnaissance returns and the primary objective completes. Three scripted HCHE impacts then occur. Stop issuing fire orders while the messages resolve so those impacts are not mixed with the four planned HE shots. Record the boundary clearly: AA4 confirmed, reconnaissance restored, objective complete, then scripted HCHE event. Remaining formations are optional cleanup.

Watch for

  • Counting an impact without a kill marker.
  • Firing after AA4 and mixing shots with the scripted event.
  • Treating completion and every medal as the same result.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not copy coordinates or firing values from another run.
  • Do not start AA1 before plotting Alpha.
  • Do not swap bearing-bearing with bearing-distance intersections.
  • Do not use an intelligence bearing as the turret bearing.
  • Do not use the short-falling 0.084 approximation when the exact formula is available.
  • Do not exceed the selected charges’ maximum range.
  • Do not erase Alpha, AA1, AA2, or Bravo before the chain is complete.
  • Do not move a late target by eye.
  • Do not count a battery before its kill marker.
  • Do not attribute the three scripted HCHE impacts to the player route.

Achievements

Nothing Was There

Completion requires all four AA batteries destroyed and reconnaissance restored.

Unshaken

All-gold recognition remains separate from the four-battery objective gate.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Defined placement zones and the Alpha–Bravo dependency stay consistent, but exact positions change with the current run. Never reuse another run’s coordinates.

Plot Alpha, then AA1 and AA2, then Bravo, then AA3 and AA4. The report-chain table lists the exact bearing and distance source for each point.

Use elevation = range ÷ (charges × 5) × 60. Each charge provides 5 km of maximum range at 60 degrees. The calculator above applies this rule and flags out-of-range inputs.

Yes. Aerial and impact images stay blocked while an AA survives, but a confirmed destruction still creates a kill marker on the map.

Aerial reconnaissance returns and the primary objective completes. Three scripted HCHE impacts then occur; stop firing while that story event resolves.

HE is sufficient for the four soft AA targets. Plot the current-run target first, calculate its firing solution, then confirm the kill marker.
